Construction of Block E of the Instituto Superior Técnico Building in Tagus Park
This construction work consisted in the construction of Bock E of the IST (Instituto Superior Técnico) building in Tagus Park.
It was of great importance for this institution of Higher Education and has established the conclusion of the 1st phase of this complex consisting of 5 blocks.
The incorporation of the new block in the existing building can be appreciated, resulting in a fully functional and integrated management unit. At the same time, the normal operation of the IST (Tecnical Institutute) was ensured.
As a whole, the building describes a semi-circle, with the central corridor located at the axis of the curb, at ground level, sided by three-story wings.
The basement of the building is meant for parking, and the ground, first and second floors are designed for classrooms, offices and laboratories.
Encompassing the central hall and part of the three-story wings, there is an overall translucid roof, to allow the light to come into the hallways.
The central area, delimitated by the two side wings, is meant for horizontal circulation and gardens, forming the basis at ground level from which the vertical connections - elevators and stairs - stand out. Connections to the side wings are established though passages at upper levels.
These were demanding and complex construction works, restating the capabilities of SÁ MACHADO E FILHOS, S.A and enriching its vast resumeé in the segment of buildings for higher education
